thank you, writers!

Thank you so much for joining us on this wild ride!

We hope that you all had fun, felt inspired, and were able to shake some of the pandemic blues. It's going to be a blast to see what you all created!

Over the next few days, our reading committee will be ensuring your plays meet the guidelines & required elements, and then we'll be posting all of the plays for public reading this Friday morning. The lottery winners for production on the main 48 Hour Playwriting Adventure page at 8:00 PM that night!

If you would prefer that your play only be considered for the lottery and not be shared for the public to read, please send us a separate email letting us know.

Also, we'd love to hear from you if you have any feedback or ideas about the process! Please feel free to email us with anything you'd like to share, or if you'd prefer to remain anonymous, you can post your thoughts in the comments on the Forum at www.benchmarktheatre.com/48hourforum.

Again, we can't thank you enough for joining us for our very first playwriting adventure!

48 Playwriting Adventure Virtual Forum

We’ve created a space for you all to anonymously chat during the weekend, if any of you would like to engage with your fellow playwrights. You can access it HERE.

ADVENTURE GUIDELINES
-All plays must be 8-12 minutes in length.
-Plays should be Winter Holiday Centric.
-You may have a max of 3 characters.
-Each character must be named solely by the letter A, B, or C, depending on how many characters are in your play.
-You will be randomly assigned one of the 3 Fever Dream genres in which to write: Horror, Fantasy, or Sci-Fi.
-You will be randomly assigned one of the two themes from our original 2020 season, either HOPES or FEARS, for your story.
-You will be randomly assigned an object associated with the winter holidays that must be incorporated into your script in some manner. It may be referenced or exist as an actual prop.
-You will be randomly assigned a winter holiday music artist, song title, or lyrics that must be incorporated into your dialogue.

At 7:55 PM on Friday, October 9th, we will post the assignments on this webpage. In order to keep the mystery, each playwright has been assigned a Codename for this process. So, you will all be able to see what the other playwrights are assigned, but you won’t know who is who until after we announce the lottery winners & post the scripts for the public to read.

Scripts must be submitted no later than 8:00PM on Sunday, October 11th in order to be considered for the selection lottery. They should be in either PDF or Word format and should be a blind submission. Please do not have your name or codename on your submission.

When you are ready to submit your script, please upload it into your Codename’s folder HERE. You are welcome to update the script in the folder up until the 8:00PM deadline. At the time, the version in the folder will be your final submission.

Depending on the length of the plays, we will be choosing 8-10 scripts via lottery to be performed by our FDF Ensemble in December! Lottery winners will be announced on the evening of Friday the 16th and all plays will posted (with playwright consent) for public viewing as well.

If you run into any technical difficulties, please text Rachel Rogers at (312) 806-4405.
